Cornel West, 50 Others Arrested In Ferguson
Organizers of the four-day Ferguson October protests dubbed the day “Moral Monday” and committed acts of civil disobedience across the St. Louis region.
In addition to the initial march on Ferguson police headquarters, protesters blocked the entrance to a major employer, held a loud rally inside St. Louis City Hall, disrupted business at a Ferguson shopping center and a Wal-Mart and tried to crash a private fundraiser for a St. Louis County executive candidate where Sen. Claire McCaskill was scheduled to appear.
All told, nearly 50 people were arrested, including scholar and civil rights activist Dr. Cornel West.
Wow the arrested the highly esteemed Dr. Cornel West….well there’s gonna be hell to tell the captain behind that one.It is just too much! Ferguson/ St. Louis police need to STOOOOOP!
Chicago Bears former manager Jerry Angelo told USA Today that the NFL has covered up literally “hundreds and hundreds” of instances of domestic violence over the years. “I made a mistake,” he stated. “I was human. I was part of it. I’m not proud of it.”
Serving with Bear from October 2001 to 2011, Jerry said that his reaction to news that any of his players had assaulted a significant other pretty much embodied a walk-it-off attitude. After a superficial check in to find out if everyone involved was “ok” Jerry said, “We’d just move on. We’d move on.”
It’s been three years since Jerry has had to cover anything up, but Ray Rice’s domestic violence scandal has blown the lid on any cover about NFL policy pertaining to abuse. The public has been keeping a very close eye on the league and calling them out for the flimsy punishment it initially leveled against Ray. Looking back, Jerry believes that he and his team could have done more to hold ballers accountable for their actions instead of turning a blind eye.
“We knew it was wrong,” Jerry said. “For whatever reason, it just kind of got glossed over. I’m no psychiatrist, so I can’t really get into what that part of it is. I’m just telling you how I was. I’ve got to look at myself first. And I was part of that, but I didn’t stand alone.”
The corporate division of the Bears’ organization has chosen to play dumb about Jerry’s accusations in a statement released today, declaring, “We were surprised by Jerry’s comments and do not know what he is referring to.”
The Bears’ former defensive tackle Tank Johnson backed up Jerry’s statements, though. More than that he personally confirmed knowing about cases of domestic violence went completely unpunished.
“I think that 95 percent of situations or issues that ballclubs face, of course they try to handle them internally and see if they can come up with a resolution,” Tank told USA Today. “We’re talking about billion-dollar organizations, and maybe there’s a little bravado there, a little ego to say that we can handle this internally.”
Doesn’t come as a surprise to me. But really why now? I really feel like a person’s job shouldn’t meddle in their personal business. If these men worked at oh lets say a GM factory. GM would not fire them because they beat up their wife or girlfriend. That’s between them, their mate, and the judge. Not for the league or team to decide their fate. IJS. The women in most cases stayed so there ya go!
On October 1 Shelly Sterling made a phone call to authorities about V. Stiviano showing up at their her manison to spend some time with her estranged (and really strange) husband, Donald Sterling.
Yes, it’s complicated, folks, so bear with us. You see, we now know that Shelly was in France when she made the call after being tipped off by her Spanish speaking gardner, because courtesy of TMZ, we have audio of the 911 phone call.
So Shelly dialed emergency all the way from France the moment she found out Donald was home alone with V. Stiviano. And get this, she told the operator a woman she described as “African black” had broken into her house.
Oh yeah, and here’s the good part. She repeatedly tells the operator Stiviano is “tormenting” Donald. Yes, “tormenting” Donald Sterling … in the bedroom.
Finally, there’s this: she insists that the operator have police get to the house ASAP … without calling Donald. Like we said, it’s complicated.
Bottom line: Donald and Shelly Sterling (and V. Stiviano) all deserve each other.
Now this chick right here needs her azz whooped! Not only because she called V. Stiviano a African black, but just because she made the call at all. She sounds touched really. Special in fact. Somebody needs to get her some Thorazine, Haldol or something and lock her butt up in the looney bin.
Tamar Braxton Shades Sister Traci Braxton’s Debut Album
Tamar Braxton threw some pitch-black shade when she openly trashed her sister Traci Braxton’s vocal prowess on Twitter.
After years of dreaming about a music career and being the underdog on “Braxton Family Values,” Traci finally dropped her debut solo album,” Crash & Burn,” last week! She’s received plenty of praise for the album she fought so hard to make, and her fans have loved every moment of listening to her work.
Among all of the love that she’s retweeted, one person confidently stated that they could see a Grammy in her future!
One would think that Traci’s sisters would be among the folks congratulating her on her album, but Tamar seemed a little salty about it because she made a really snarky remark about that prediction.
“Do the Grammys have a duet with auto tune category yet? Cause…(chair emoji) (thumbs down emoji),” Tamar stated in a tweet that has since been scrubbed from her timeline. She left it up just long enough for The Shade Room to get a screen capture of the comments, though!
Traci hasn’t responded to the hurtful comments from her sister on social media at this time. She did take some time out to thank her oldest sister Toni Braxton for helping lay the groundwork for her to be able to release her own project, though.
